31st January 2005	D.C.M. for Trooper R.Brown By Graham Alexander The award of the distinguished conduct medal is usually well documented. However, I have been unable to find any reference to the medal awarded to Trooper. R. Brown of the Frontier Light Horse. It would appear likely that the action at Hlobane was the probable place where he gained it, but details are sadly sparse on the subject. Can anybody supply more information about Trooper Brown ?

31st January 2005	Martin Everett My notes say: Frontier Light Horse Recommendations submitted to the Queen September 1879. This is in WO146/1 at TNA Kew (file not open to the public - the reason is that an earlier reader tried to remove HM's signatures) Orderly to Lt Col Redvers Buller Brief details in The Times 10 Dec 1879. Medal presented by HM at Windsor Castle on 9 Dec 1879 (there were some famous AZW names at the same investiture!) See also The Graphic 20 Dec 1879. Read 'Blood on the Painted Mountain' by Ron Lock pages 208 and 213. The rest is up to you.
