Date | Original Topic | 29th January 2002 | Prince Imperial By Brian Best While plaudits are being bestowed on Adrian Greaves's "Isandlwana", I should like to draw attention to another excellent recent publication. I have just finished reading Ian Knight's "With His Face To The Foe", which I think is the definitive account on the life & death of the Prince Imperial. My parents lived most of their lives in Chislehurst and the Napoleon connection is still quite visable, with the "N" crest displayed on several buildings. A whole row of cottages by the "Imperial Arms" pub, housed the workforce of nearby Camden Place.
The house, now the Chislehurst Golf Clubhouse, still retains much of the exiled family's influence and, with the Club's permission, is worth a visit.
