Date | Original Topic | 1st February 2002 | ZULU WAR REENACTMENT GROUPS By GLENN STACY Just out of curiosity, are there any groups out there that reenact any of the battles of the Zulu War? I am a Civil War reenactor in the states (6th Wisconsin of the famed Iron Brigade-- Huzzah!!). I have been interested in this war for some time, on a strictly amateur level. | Date | Replies | 2nd February 2002 | Martin Everett Dear Glenn,
There are three groups to my knowledge - there may be more. (1) The Die-Hards of Dundee near Isadnhlwana in South Africa (2) The 1879 Living History Group in UK (see link to their web site on www.rrw.org.uk) (3) The Die-Hards also in UK - this group cover both the AZW and the Boer War and have appeared in many TV and Film productions. All groups represent the 24th Regiment. Obviously there are local Zulus who appear in traditional dress for special occasions at the battlesites. | 2nd February 2002 | Greg king Glenn,I recommend you take a look at the `1879 group` I`ve just joined myself. they have a uniform section ,and they also rededicate graves of soldiers buried over here .They`re a very friendly bunch ,with lots of enthusiasm for the period .Well worth checking out the web site mentioned above. | 4th February 2002 | Mike McCabe A clear distinction should be drawn between the parading of Zulu regimental groups at historical sites, sometimes under their chiefs, with traditional weapons, and in traditional dress, and some "re-enactment groups". The former are taking part in a dignified traditional ceremonial act - the latter in observable cases frequently are not. |
