|19th April 2005||Can someone tell me|
how the spent cartridge case was ejected from the Martini henry rifle
|19th April 2005||Adrian Whiting|
The Martini Henry rifle used a rimmed cartridge case. The rim of the cartridge engaged with two extractor arms, 180 degrees apart, but part of the same component, i.e. one extractor.
Two recesses in the breech accomodated the armswhen the action was closed.
When the action was openend, by depressing the operating lever underneath the action, this caused the breech block to drop, which in turn cammed the extractor arms forward. If done sharply enough the cartridge case would be thrown clear of the action.
If you contact me off forum I can provide some images, which may be easier to follow !
