The uniforms for 'Zulu' were provided by Bermans & Nathans, - now Angels & Nathans, I think, the uniforms there were re-used time and again in various productions.
Some of the helmets even made it into 'Carry On Up the Khyber'.
Michael Caine's uniform was on display at the Museum of the Moving Image, near the South Bank, London.
'Zulu Dawn' ones - The Royal Regiment of Wales should have a few, the Regiment used them at the Wembley Tattoo back in either 1979 or 1980. I believe they made an appearance at a Cardiff Tattoo at about the same period of time.
There's a few bits and pieces scattered around the area of Babanango, where the cast and crew were, back in 1999 there was a complete uniform pinned to the wall of the bar in the Babanango Hotel. Also the Talana Museum has a few examples of the Natal volunteer force uniforms.

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy modern reproductions of Zulu shields and assegais either in the UK or South Africa.

27th February 2002 | Diana Blackwell You can find reproductions (as well as the real thing) on eBay. (Try searching under "Zulu"). Watch out for the pre-packaged set of shield, assegai, and knobkerry, though--these appear to be slightly miniaturized. |

28th February 2004 | Russell Hartley - Jones I bought my shield at Rorkes Drift Museum shop made by the locals. In doing this it carries some sentimental thought with it. |

Was the shield a full size one and how much did you have to pay for it? It seems to me the locals could make a fortune selling them by post to Zulu war enrthusiasts in this country.

The uniform you referred to is still pinned to the wall in the bar of the (now refurbished) Babanango Hotel, or it was as late as last year.

1st March 2004 | Sheldon Hall Last time I was there (more than five years ago), the Planet Hollywood restaurant in London had a small display case in the basement area with a rifle, shield and possibly a uniform alongside a picture of Caine in ZULU. I don't remember if it was being claimed that they were specifically his. They may still be there. |
