Date | Original Topic | 1st August 2005 | Charles Warren By Glenn Wade Hi
I have heard that Sir Charles Warren, Commissioner of the Met in 1888, and heavily involved in the Jack the Ripper murders, fought in the 9th Cape Frontier War. Can anyone shed some light on this please?
Thanks for any help

Yes, I do believe he fought on the British side, possibly in the Royal Engineers.
Cheers

Yes he was in the RE, fought in the 9th Frontier War (severley wounded and promoted Lt.Col.), seved as Metropolitan Police Commissioner 1886-1888, as well in the Boer War (connected with the controversey surrounding Spion Kop) in between managing quite a few other feats and retired a general as well as a charter Boy Scout scoutmaster. Quite an interesting life.
