Date | Original Topic | 9th April 2001 | Zulu "Mausers" By Rob Glennen Has anyone ever noticed when watching Zulu, the lads in two ranks firing , not all have Martini Henry rifles . You can see the bolt action of Mausers being worked .They still feed a single round at a time into the breech so as to keep in time with the lever action of the Henry.I was told many years ago by a arms dealer that there had not been enough of the Henry's to supply all the extras . | Date | Replies | 10th April 2001 | John Young Rob,
I personally know the prop master for the film, they actually used "Long Lees" without the magazine fitted.
There certainly were not the numbers of Martini-Henrys available at the time in 1963 when the film was shot.

buff , fortunatly for film makers only about
1% of viewers know the difference.
Im updating my film library with DVD copys of my
favorite films and just caught the Turks using
M1919 Brownings in Lawrence of Arabia ,I just
watched Chuck Heston carring a Lee Metford instead
of a Krag in 55 days at Peking .
It makes for interesting conversation .

| 16th April 2001 | Frank Muscal I had read in another review of the movie Zulu that Stanley Baker was using a WWI pistol (Webley??). Is this true? | 17th April 2001 | John Young Frank,
That's correct, both Stanley Baker & Michael Caine have either Webleys or Enfield revolvers.
