I have been collecting and reading about the zulu war 1879 for about 5 years. as everyone is aware it is not an easy collection to build ? I do not know any-one in the somerset/ dorset area that in to the same hobby/study ! maybe you may like to get in touch and let me know how much grief you get trying to get relics with a real interest not just for a financial investment even if you are from other areas it would be great to hear how your collecting is going ! by the way I think the web site is well done with great reading nice to read genuine enquiries not just trade stand chatter regards andy!

Andy,
The first rule in collecting is "speak to other collectors". By speaking to them you will find the best sources for artifacts. Also once you know each others particular interests you can exchange artifacts.
You would do well to join the various societies that cater for Zulu War enthusiasts and attend some of their fairs. e.g. The Victorian Military Society has a fair in London once a year. There are always artifacts for sale at these.
It doesn't have to be a very expensive hobby. My particular interest is in collecting old newspapers of 1879 which I pick up from between 4 and 12 each.
I live just outside London so I am spoilt for choice in places to pick up atifacts.
I have even found the occasional item in boot sales. i.e. a copy of the Strand Magazine of 1891 which contains accounts by Rorkes Drift defenders.
Keep looking. The stuff is out there.

Andy, i have for some years received quarterly a 'Catalogue of Military Prints and Books' from Steven Hopkins, Court Farm, Kington, Worcestershire WR7 4DQ.
As well as being an excellent provider of antiquarian Victorian and modern military books, this always includes photographs, medals, Victorian slides, papers and other ephemera.
It is sent free of charge.
