Date | Original Topic | 25th April 2001 | Was he there? By Norman Saul David Saul enlisted at Hamilton on 15 Jan 1877 age 21 years and discharged on 8 Jan 1889 was rumoured to have been at Rorkes Drift. How can I find out whether he was there or not? | Date | Replies | 26th April 2001 | Peter Critchley Norman,
I'm afraid it is very unlikely he was there, as the Garrison Rolls of both Chard and Bourne do not include anny 'Saul'. You can see this if you go to the battle section and check out the Garrison Roll link.
Peter | 26th April 2001 | Lee Stevenson Found a Private D. Saul, Regtl. No 967, serving with the 90th (Perthshire) Light Infantry. He received the South African Campaign Medal with clasp for 1877-8-9.
Could this be your man?
If his army service papers have survived they will now be at the Public Record Office, Kew, (WO97 Series) | 29th April 2001 | Norman Saul Peter and Lee
