Date | Original Topic | 13th May 2002 | Swapping the actors around! By Glenn Wade I was wandering what it would be like if the actors from Zulu Dawn had played characters in Zulu and the actors from Zulu had played people in Zulu Dawn. Anybody got any thoughts of who would make a good Chard out of The Zulu Dawn cast or who could have made a good Durnford out of the Zulu cast? Any thoughts for other character swaps? Maybe Burt Lancaster as Bromhead or the late Sir Stanley Baker as Pulleine?
Glenn | Date | Replies | 13th May 2002 | John Young Glenn,
There were two who didn't have to swap as they made it into both films - Simon Sabela the dance leader in 'Zulu', who also gets killed several times over - became King Cetshwayo in 'Zulu Dawn'. Larry Taylor -'Hughes' in 'Zulu' - who became a Royal Artillery non-commissioned officer in N/5 in 'Zulu Dawn'.
I believe if Sir Stanley Baker hadn't died he was angling to play Anthony Durnford in 'Zulu Dawn'.

I can't help feeling that Nigel Green would have made a better Durnford, by a whiskers.

[email protected] | 16th May 2002 | Arthur Bainbridge Simon Ward could have played Bromhead and Nigel Davenport colour sgt Bourne not so sure it would work with the Zulu cast.
Zulu could be available on dvd region 2 in September. | 7th June 2002 | Stephen Glenn,
All things considered, given the performance of Burt Lancaster as Durnford, I think Stanley Baker could still have done a better job. |
