Date | Original Topic | 3rd June 2002 | Regimental Name By Mark.Williamson In one of the few books I have read it mentions the combining
of regiments in 1881 to form the South Wales Borders, and
before this date the regiment held the name 24th Regt of Foot
South Warwickshire regiment, can someone elaborate on this | Date | Replies | 3rd June 2002 | Gary Laliberty Hi Mark,
In 1782 the 24th Regiment was instructed to name itself the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot, and it was under this title that the Regiment was known for the next one hundred years. And since 1873 the 24th had been recruiting mainly from Welsh border counties and in that year the Regimental Depot was established in Brecon. It was therefore logical that in 1881 when the whole British Army was given territorial titles, the 24th should assume the title of The South Wales Borderers.
Well, I hope that this has help you.
