Date | Original Topic | 2nd October 2002 | Symbol Of Sacrifice By M.Price I have just had the video Isandlwana Zulu
Battlefield, with scenes from the 1918 Film
Symbol of Sacrifice I got the title from
Military Illustrated July 1995 no 86. They did
an article called The Great Ammo Box Debate.
Is this film available on Video or Dvd.
regards Mike. | Date | Replies | 3rd October 2002 | John Young Not to my knowledge. The film is not actually intact.
The Natal Museums' Service did put something together which enabled them to present a representation of the film with the remaining stock.
To my knowledge, the only airing that it received in the U.K. was at the R.R.W. Museum in Brecon, a few years back.
John Young,

Anglo-Zulu War Research Society. | 4th October 2002 | Don Guy 'Symbol' was saved by Mark Coglan of the Natal Carbineers Pietermaritzburg KZN and Mayer Levy, an ARCHIVE 'buff' in Johannesburg...parts are missing, thought to have been censored/ burnt/ destroyed by a past govt. because it might have provoked 'native' violence in troubled South Africa decades ago....Mayer sold his best copy to PRIME MEDIA (SA FILM CO.) to cover costs of edits and transfers.
We aquired our footage from Mark Coglan initiatlly and subsequently got permission and use of rights from PRIME MEDIA.

PIETERMARITZBURG KZN. SOUTH AFRICA | 5th October 2002 | M.Price My thanks to John Young & Don Guy for all there help.
regards Mike. | 5th October 2002 | Peter Quantrill Don also included battle scenes from " Voortrekers," in particular the burning wagons footage. The latter was also produced by Schlesinger. We are lucky enough to hold the video on both productions. |
