Date | Original Topic | 18th October 2002 | 80TH (South Staffordshire) By Michael George Hi There, I live in Stafford in the West Midlands, our Regement was in the Zulu War, could anyone tell me where I can find some info on the 80TH in the Zulu War? Thanks for any Help. | Date | Replies | 18th October 2002 | John Young Michael,
Try buying Robert Hope's 'The Zulu War & The 80th Regiment of Foot', isbn no. 1897949 24 3, published by the author & Churnet Books in 1997. It should answer most questions.

You could also try the Staffordshire Regiment Museum at Whittington Barrack, Lichfield. Here they have both Booth's and Wassall's VC's and Booth's revolver, plus uniforms and a diorama, together with the medals of Colonel Tucker. While in Lichfield, don't hesitate to visit the memorial to the 80th, South Staffordshire Regiment in the south transept of Lichfield Cathedral. This has to be one of the finest Zulu War memorials in existence. The names of the fallen at Ntombe River are preserved forever on the lacings of replica Zulu shields mounted on a gateway comprised of replica assegais. The colours of the regiment carried throughout the Zulu War are also present in the cathedral. | 21st October 2002 | Martin Everett Dear Michael,
You could, of course, go and listen to David Rattray who is in stafford on 4 November 2002. Click on 'Events' on this site and page down to 4 Novemmber for details. You will be transported to the battlefield and have a memorable evening. Dont' miss it. |
