Date | Original Topic | 23rd October 2002 | men of Harlech By Cliff Watkins I represent the Beckenham Heritage Group. We are staging a "Beckenham's Famous" Jubilee Year concert on Nov 9th 2002. Prompted by the film Zulu, we will be playing "Men of Harlech" as a tribute to Colour Sgt Frank Bourne who lived here. I gather that some people might say this is not appropriate as the SWB were not formed 'til 1881.
What should I put in the Programme Notes?

To be frank, I wouldn't worry about it - Frank Edward Bourne became a South Wales Borderer on formation of that regiment, and was later commissioned into that regiment.
The tune is synonymous with the film 'Zulu', and Nigel Green's memorable, if inaccurate, portrayal of Frank Edward Bourne, typified the backbone of the British Army - the senior non-commissioned officer.
I'm sure you might be able to make something of that!
