Date | Original Topic | 9th December 2002 | Capt Bromhead 24th Regt By Clive Dickens This is one I hope John or Martin can help me out on. I have a photograph of a Captain Bromhead in Tropical undress uniform he is defiantly not Gonvile Bromhead so did he have a brother in the 24th Regt and if so did he serve in the Zulu war?

Yes e had a brother Charles James Bromhead, who was born in 1840.
Charles was one of Sir Garnet Wolesley's Asante Ring..
There is a photograph of him in Ian Knight's 'Zulu - Isandlwana & Rorke's Drift' on page 128.
He went out with the reinforcements in February, 1879 in the wake of Isandlwana.
When Wolseley assumed command he had C.J. Bromhead, in command of a personal escort of mounted infantry.
There was another brother who served in India - Sir Benjamin Parnell Bromhead, any photographs of him are quite obvious, after I believe 1888, as he lost both his hands in action.

Sorry my current injury means I don't have the full use of my right hand - opening comment should 'Yes he had...'
Please scan me a copy and I should be able to identify him for you.
