Two questions to everyone to seek some help:

1. I'm currently trying to collect all the differently-clasped medals from the campaigns between 1877 and 1879 inclusive and have just purchased a 1878-clasp medal which belonged to a Pte Jacob of the 2nd Komgha Fingo Levy, awarded for his part in the campaign v. the Griquas. Anyone know of any source material on this particular conflict, and how I can find out anything about the 2nd Komgha? The conflict is mentioned in all the lead-ups to the AZ War, but is there anything specific?

2. Anyone know where I might be able to get a copy of AJ Smithers 'The Man Who Disobeyed' book on HL Smith-Dorrien? I've tried all the various second-hand and rare books websites I can think of with no success to date.

Thanks and merry Christmas to one and all.

Have you tried The Kaffir Wars 1779-1877
by Smithers. Gon devotes a few paras to this in The Road to Isandhlwana

Don't know how up-to-date they keep their lists, but "Military Books List 42" <military [email protected]> have a copy on offer for $US33. If you haven't already tried this site & perhaps found this copy already gone, you'll see it listed as No 257 on List 42 under the category headed "WW1."

Can't see much info about the site other than the long list of titles on offer, but a contact email address is provided. No sign of the title on the other 2nd-hand books sites I usually use (abebooks, ukbooks/haybooks, bookfinder etc).

There are plenty of copies about of the other Smithers book Julian suggests above (Kaffir Wars, 1779-1877) - 15 copies on the abebooks site alone.

Good luck

Peter
