Hi Chaps. Hope you had a great Christmas. Could anyone please shed some light on the terrain features and vegetation in January 1879 around Isandlwana?
Cheers lads

Dear Glenn,

Quite a difficult question to answer through the medium of a discussion forum. Generally, there was less vegetation in 1879 in comparision to today. one of the best collections of comtemporary photographs of the terrain is held by the Killie Campbell Library in Durban. But visiting Durban may not be an option for you. However, ian Knight's book 'The Zulu War: Then and Now' - see details on the shop - can give you a good idea of the various battlesites in 1879. I expect others will be able to recommend other books with good c1879 photographs.
