18th March 2003wood used for assagia shafts ?

Can anyone tell me what wood was used for the shafts of the assagia spears ?

I am lead to understand that the shafts could be made from a number of woods native to Zululand. have a number of very old assagias in my study, however my favourite is a fairly modern one made with a Stinkwood shaft. A wonderful colour!
