Date | Original Topic | 6th September 2001 | what happened to Higginson? By Peter Johnston Hi,
This is my post here and I wouyld like to congratulate you on your excellent site.
When reading the "Melvil and Coghill" section of the site, I noticed that you reported that they where accomapnied by a NNC Oficer by the name of Higginson, but after he had escaped from the river with Melvill there is no mention of him after he went to look for the horses. What I would like to find out is what happened to him and or is fate at all known? | Date | Replies | 7th September 2001 | John Young Lieutenant W.C.R. Higginson, Adjutant of 1st/3rd Natal Native Contingent survived the action of Isandlwana.
Higginson had formerly held the rank of Lieutenant with the Royal Dublin City Militia, somewhere on file here I have his home address and details of his next-of-kin.
But I can't lay my hands on it at this time.
He left a statement which appears in W.O. 33/33 regarding Isandlwana.
He got to the top of the slope where there were some men of the Natal Native Horse, and he rode with them to Helpmekaar.
I'll endeavour to find out his subsequent carrer, if you wish.
