Date | Original Topic | 8th September 2001 | 24th Regt of Foot By Chuck Hoskinson Does anyone know iif there is a flag for the 24th? If so, I would appreciate an electronic image. | Date | Replies | 9th September 2001 | Martin Everett Chuck,
I assume you mean the Queen's Colour of the 1st/24th Foot which was save by Lts. Mevill and Coghill after Isandhlwana and later found in the Buffalo River? There were three Colours at Isandhlwana - the other two were lost. There was said to be a Union Flag flying over the mission station at Rorke's Drift - the there no way of verifying that the flag now held in the museum at Brecon actually flew on 22/23 January 1879. It was presented to the museum by Pte Evan Jones, one of the defenders. This flag is a normal union flag (not specifically 24th) like the one on the home page of this site. If you wish a copy of the Queen's Colour 1st/24th send me an email.

I would appreciate a copy.
Just returned from south Africa, and participated in the Battle of Talana re-enactment in Dundee.
They also had a re-enactment of Rorke's Drift, which was very well done. They plan to make it an annual affair.
