Date | Original Topic | 1st December 2001 | The movie Zulu and the effect it had on everyone By Dave Hi again, and please dont flame me on this post like you did the others. Im sorry if i didnt understand the battle. Back on topic I never would have heard of the Zulu war if i hadnt seen the movie Zulu sos i wanted to know if you all started liking the war after you had seen the movie or you were just a fan without the movey | Date | Replies | 2nd December 2001 | Peter Critchley Hi Dave,
I suppose it depends really, but from what I have seen, a vast majority of people will have seen the film Zulu and been drawn to the campaign, especially the defence of Rork'e Drift. It's such an emotive story, it inevitably leads people to seek out more information.
All the best,
Peter

Well, for me it started with a book "The Washing of the Spears" by Donald R. Morris, then I saw the movie "ZULU". Then I got into "Wargaming" first with boardgames, then with 25mm figtures (about 1" high)made from "lead", from a company called "Ral Partha" Gary | 3rd December 2001 | Stephen Good question Dave. Don't worry we won't 'flame' you on this. Its great that young people are interested.
My interest started when I was young and one evening my Dad came home from the Movies and said he saw a great movie 'Zulu'. He said the soldiers were very heroic. Many years later I saw it on TV and got hooked. I've always been interested in the history of the British Empire (and was taught it in school) but the Zulu War was, and is, unique.
There are many stories within a story. Bravery on both sides.
Lastly, as a Canadian, I got further interested in the war as some Canadians did fight in it.
So enjoy the site...there are great contributors to the discussion forum...like me, you will continue to learn new things.
Cheers | 3rd December 2001 | Arthur Bainbridge I saw the film Zulu when I was 8 years old it was great then and has matured very well, the battle scenes are awsome.I;ve heard that the dvd may be delayed so I will watch it on tv at christmas,
