Set aside a bottle of gin and some haversack rations would be my advice...it will seem interminable and unbelievably dull after the first 14 hours. I think it goes on for about three weeks altogether. Shocked

Coll,

If you take Col Mike's advice and get in the bottle of gin, please don't forget the tonic and ice!

(Oh, some lemon is also advised...)

Congratulations on your purchase! I hope you enjoy the series - with or without the gin!

In view of your earlier mention of "Myth of Iron" you may be interested to know that the Biography TV Channel has recently done a documentary on Shaka with contributions from Ian Knight and Dan Wylie, amongst others.

I believe the programme has already "gone out" in the USA but not in the UK as yet. Might be worth keeping an eye on the TV listings if you have access to the Biography channel (Sky 156, Virgin 242).

Haydn,

How stupid that they broadcast these programmes on channels that very few people receive---I have access to 130 channels over here but Sky-NO!!

Watched all of 'Shaka Zulu' !

This is how my eyes look now Shocked (ouch!)

Henry Cele, the Zulu costumes/sets, the scenery, all superb.

Now that I've seen Henry Cele as Shaka, it is difficult to imagine anyone else in the role, as he dominates the screen.

Fantastic.

Very pleased to own the series. Very Happy

Coll,

See, we said you'd like it!

Did you get the [much shorter] Shaka movie also? If you did, I'd suspect that you'd enjoy that too, albeit with an eye closed to history.

I'm not going to purchase the other dvd, the ten-part series will do nicely.

Coll,

Probably the right thing to do!

Mind you, Henry Cele as Shaka (in both movies) is well worth the cover price - again, if you ingore the history in the shorter version!

Not sure when the second movie was made, my copy only has the DVD's 2005 date on my [US] version.
