17th Lancer NCO`s rank chevrons

Hi Guys.
Could anyone please give me any information as to the backing
colour of the NCO`s rank chevrons worn by 17th Lancer troopers.

I know the colour of the actual chevrons, it`s the colour of the backing material I`m after.

The Osprey book British Forces in Zululand 1879 shows a Corporal of
the 17th Lancers and the backing to the chevrons look as though it`s red
in colour, the actual illustration is titled "The Death of Lieutenant and
Adjutant F.J. Cockayne Frith 17th Lancers by the late Richard Scollins.
I would like to find out this info as I`m in the process of putting together a 1/6 scale Lancer figure in South Africa 1879.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
