Really hoping experts may be able to help me with this question:

I'm very interested in reading a book by Jackson and wondered which book listed below is the one I should get?

OR....Should I get both, and why - How are they different?

Your thoughts are always and of great value to me.

The books in question:

Hill of the Sphinx: The Battle of Isandlwana By: David Jackson

Isandhlwana 1879 - The Sources Re-examined By: David Jackson

Looking very forward to your opinions,

David

Mons14,

Go for both---you won't find anything better.

Hill of the Sphinx is a more recent version of the series of three articles, which were published, from memory, in 1965. Better just get the former, which will include the latter and more.

Thank you both, Keith and Robert for your very helpful thoughts.

I have decided at the end to go get both, as I can't help but be curious of what the author originally wrote in 1965, and then how it evolved into his second book. (Secondly, the books are not terribly expensive, so wont break the bank to get both.)

So I've just now placed my online order from the museum at Brecon, and will now begin watching my mailbox with great anticipation.

Thank you again,

David

You'll see how radically different is his account from that of Morris, who was publishing his version around the same time.

One version appears to have stood the test of time, whereas the other hasn't. With few exceptions, almost all published accounts of the battle in subsequent years have broadly followed the findings of Jackson.
