Has anyone got any further information on Martin's career after the 1st Anglo-Boer War? Only I can't lay my hands on my copy of the Abbott N/5 article in JSAHR so I struggling at present.

Thanks in anticipation.

John,

Abbott has him as discharged as Battery Quartermaster Sergeant 23/7/1896; died 19/1/1912. Distinguished Conduct Medal for siege of Potchefstroom 22/1/1881 (January 22nd seems to always be a busy day for the poor fellow) and Long Service and Good Conduct medal. (WO 97/3435)

Hope that helps.

Regards, Jeff

He was only aged 18 when he earned the Distinguished Conduct Medal. With Isandlwana two years earlier he certainly saw a bit of action in his early years.
