All,

I also note that James Bancroft has added the following to his list of published works:

Title: The Rorke's Drift Men: Heroes of the Zulu War
Author: James W. Bancroft
Hardcover, ISBN 075245692X
Publisher: The History Press Ltd, 2010

Harold, are you still adding to your lists?

Does anyone have a copy from which to comment?

Dear AMB,
Many thanks for the update.
While I continue to maintain a "running" AZW bibliography, my actual bibliography book manuscript (c. 649 pp.) was sent to the pubisher (Scarecrow Press) a few months ago.
I'll provide updates when I receive the page proofs, etc.
Many thanks,
Harold

Harold,

One for the 2nd edn, maybe?!

With the popularity of this subject, I suspect a 2nd edn in a few years will be a must.

Dear AMB

I had a phone call just this morning from my local Waterstones to say my copy of James Bancroft's new book was in. I first noted the book after a work colleague showed me a small piece by James, in a local Devon newspaper, on Pte. William Wilcox. It dovetailed nicely with my need to spend two vouchers given to me for my 21st birthday (Sorry - I meant 60th)

Will report back when I've perused it.

Regards

Paul

Has anyone managed to read this book yet, and would they be prepared to put their heads above the parapet and place a review here?

Thank you in advance.

Is that the correct title of the book, "The Rorke's Drift Men: Heroes of the Zulu"? Should there be a "War" at the end? There usually is.

Full title is "The Rorke's Drift Men" subtitled "Heroes of the Zulu War".

The reason I ask, is that while I purchase my books from a local independent bookseller (use it or lose it), the good wifey buys her's from Amazon. They recently sent her a 'heads up' that this is a book she should buy (for me) and I would like to know whether this is in fact the case, or, are there other books out there that would be better?

Thanks

JK

Alan,

Quite correct: "Zulu War".

William,

The book is basically a series of biographies of the defenders. Whilst some interesting research is contained within the book, it is not as comprehensive as one might expect of a book published in 2010. That said, a useful starter, but you would wish to supplement with additional material, I think.
I hope this helps.
