The story of the Royal Corps Of Transport And Its Predecessors.

Apparently originated hundreds of years ago, but I don't recall it being mentioned in the Zulu War 1879, more likely to be locally purchased wagons and paid wagon drivers, unless organised by this Corps.

Were they part of the Commissariat rather than an individual unit then ?

PS. Has anyone read this book ?

Coll,

Whilst some wagons and wagoners were locally procured, military wagons and wagoners would also have been part of the deployed military train. Commissariat officers and transport officers would have been part of the logistical chain run of the respective columns.

Without being able to look at my books, I can not say if Deputy Assistant Adjutant Generals were deployed with the Columns to co-ord the log effort.

I have a copy of Sutton's book in my library. It is a good read; well worth the cover price/getting from the library.
