Been reading an interesting article about a First World War weapon, that although wasn't issued to troops, was constructed with the rear of a MH rifle, but fitted with a (hand) grenade launcher. Known correctly as a Blanch-Chevallier Grenade Discharger, I think an example of it is stored at the Royal Armouries. The grenade itself was launched by a .450 cartridge blank, which to me seems a very novel idea for the era, sort of recycling 19th Century military firearms
