Ive recently acquired the book about Major James Francis Thomas, the man assigned as the defence counsel in the Breaker Morant trial.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ready-Aim-Fire-Execution-Lieutenant/dp/1925230503/ref=sr_1_5?crid=30TN2OKEC7AHR&keywords=breaker+morant&qid=1582818443&s=books&sprefix=Breaker%2Caps%2C152&sr=1-5 He was discovered after a haunting photograph was saved from being binned, which showed him standing, hat in hand, at the joint grave of Morant and Hancock. I dont think there were any high-profile military trials in 1879, but were there any standout British military lawyers from then, not so well-known. Im trying to get an idea of how big was the department of the British forces, or was it still in its infancy....trials left instead to Commanding Officers, etc ? |
