This is my first topic for this most excellent and informative site, which I always enjoy visiting. After reading Hall's fine book, I had a question. It may have been asked before and I have not seen it here, but it was also a question that I did not see answered in that very informative book.

Does anyone know what was the white spire-like object that the Zulu's run past in several of the scenes in the film while charging the redoubt? I know the film's location was a game preserve, but was it a monument of sorts? At first, like many, I thought that the film was made at the real Rorke's Drift and it was a memorial to the battle that they could not hide, but that is obviously not possible.

Hi Yankee

I believe you are talking about the flag pole that is left outside the perimeter during the battle. You can see it flying the Union flag when the men are distmantling the camp.

Cheers
