Dear Clive,

I regret no. My great grandfather enlisted in 38th Foot in 1853 and he crossed the Alma on 20 Sep 1854 and then saw service in the Mutiny before transferring to the Scots Fusilier Guards. His family name was 'Everard' but the recruiting Sergeant in 1853 wrote down 'Everett'. So when my grandfather joined the Scots Guards he had to serve as 'Everett' although his brother, my great Uncle served in the 2nd Life Guards as 'Everard'. That's many litetimes ago.
