sticking on a slightly nautical theme for the moment, for comparisions to Alexander Kent read the books by Frank Eccles ex-3 Para, Arnhem Veteran, from about 200 yards from were i live now in manchester, when i asked him why he wrote naval books he said, them and cowboy books easiest thing in world to write, get stuck have the ship sink.

Not sure if he was joking, but his books were actually quite good

Yes Dawn..you can go on scribbling now..all's well...now just watch out for
your idea of an opening sentence in your future endeavors...

"It was a dark and stormy night.....better check if that's copyrighted somewhere...someone just may test that one out too......(er...but I know you're more creative than that!...Wink..)

Or when writing a detective novel - when you get stuck, have a man walk in with a gun.

And yes, my opening line is more creative than 'a dark and stormy night'. And there were no ships in Zululand; except for hard-ships, haha, Wink

Look for the April 17, 2006 column...

"Is it all a matter of "shut your mouth about the source and you'll get away with it"? For instance; I've noticed that despite it being blatantly obvious; Tarantino has never been quoted as saying City On Fire was an inspiration for Reservoir Dogs. However, James Cameron came right out and said that some short works by [Harlan Ellison](http://imdb.com/name/nm0255196/) were the inspiration for The Terminator -- and then he got sued..."

Interesting commentary.
