Michael b
comparing the various rates of pay quoted above it seems that the last one given by your good self may be for a later period - so if anyone can help I'd still like to know the rate for a shoeing smith in 1879.

While they're about explaining 'avoir du pois',

maybe someone could explain to Mikey the vagiaries of the game of cricket, as well, and why the pitch length is 1 chain ???

Mikey,
No worries !
British Lsd, weights and measures and cricket can all be pretty confusing, especially to anyone who drives on the wrong side of the road.
You have to have 'been there' to appreciate it all !

Just remember, we're here to help further confuse you.

Might be just easier to move across the ditch and join in !

This might well seem a silly question to those more in the know, but were these daily rates paid for 7 days a week or less? Apologies if I've missed this info somewhere else on site.
