I noticed a book for sale by Lloyd on ebay 'On Active Service.' I'd seen individual prints of his in the past but was unaware of a book, was this a one off? Also, the facings depicted on the book cover appear to be white, I understood the 24th had green facings?

The book was published in 1890. Lloyd took the images from those he had drawn during the Anglo-War some ten years earlier. He adjusted the uniforms - particularly the facings (white rather than grass green) - reflect that the 24th Regt - South Wales Borderers had been ordered to change to universal facings (white) from 1881. Green facings for SWB were restored in 1905.

Lt William Whitelocke Lloyd produced a number of similar books - A Soldier's Life in India - is rare. He was also official artist for P&O Shipping Line.

In the new book on Lloyd by David Rattray, you will be able to make comparisons with the 1879 sketches and those appearing in 'On Active Service'

Thanks, it's really quite interesting. 1890 Edition, 20 plates with captions.

Second one down. It's still at the starting bid of GBP 1 (that's a buck ninety-five in rapidily devaluating USD!) Would the new book by David Rattray and Martin contain the same illustrations I wonder?
