Does anyone out there know where I can get either a copy South Africa Medal with bar 1877-8-9, or just the bar from? I have tried one or two reputable medallists to no avail. I have read an archived search for one of the rarer bars and have already tried the recommended medallists shown there. I know 'Tailor's copies' of bars were common, if anyone could suggest a Regimental Tailor etc that may be able to help I would be grateful.
Thanks!

I regret I know of no commericial source. Fortunately on the demise of the Army Medal Office I was able to have original clasps of 6 out of 7 that were produced which are on display in the museum.

Chris Dixon (www.dixonsmedals.co.uk) tends to have a stock of damaged/erased medals that can be used for spares. Failing that, keep an eye out on eBay but please do not, under any circumstances, break up a perfectly good medal.

Or something like this:

You might try these guys. Monarch Militaria.

They have a pretty good range of Victorian campaign copies, and even do an 'ageing' process, and reasonably priced.

These guys do 'Custom' computer engraved bars and clasps;

This guy (Robert Finnegan) does an 1877-9 copy, but a bit pricier;

And Jeremy Tenniswood (Aldershot Badge and Medal Co Ltd) offers copies without bar, reasonably priced.
He also sells a range of 24th badges and buckles.

That should keep you busy.
No doubt 'you gets what you pays for' !
cheers,
Sean

Thanks for the suggestions, I have managed to find somewhere with the 1877-8-9 bar and have ordered the medal as a copy from the RRW Museum as Martin Everett has been a useful sdource of info for me it seemed only right to support the Museum in this way.
Alan
