Can anyone help? I am trawling my library but cannot find reference to the type of buckle used with the 1871 valise for British forces in zululand. For example would the 1st & 2nd Battalion of 24th regt. have the numbered buckle or the 1876 general service version, or indeed was there a mixture of the two?

Any ideas guys?

Further to above. according to Ian Knight - British Forces in Zululand both officers and other ranks had regimental buckles. Was the general service buckle therefore not worn by any regiments present in Africa at this time?
