If you're going to read Jackson's pieces (esp his earlier [1965] thoughts), then Yorke's piece in the Journal of the Army Historical Research Society (I think in 1990?) should also be looked at.

Andrew

I'm not familiar with Yorke's paper in the JAHRS - can you let me have a title etc.? If I get to the NAM next month, I might just look it up.

Gentlemen,

I believe this is the article in question:

Yorke, Edmund. Isandlwana, 1879: Further Reflections on the Ammunition Controversy. Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research 72 (1994): 205-218. The author examines the contentious issue of a shortage of ammunition being a major cause for the British defeat at the Battle of Isandlwana, 22 January 1879. He concludes, that a chronic failure in the organization of the ammunition supply, . . . , did play a key role in the disaster at Isandlwana.

Good reading!

Greetings:

In an earlier post I identified Yorke's 1994 JSAHR article. It is worth noting that Ian Knight responded to Yorke's article:

Knight, Ian J. Ammunition at Isandlwana: A Reply. Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research 73 (1995): 237-249.

Good reading!

Hi David,

I would recommend contacting the SAHR Hon Treasurer and Membership Secretary, Colonel Guy Sayle , at [email protected], telephone 007901951007, fax 0044(0) 207 629 9546, or by letter Colonel G N R Sayle OBE, Membership Secretary SAHR, c/o The Cavalry and Guards Club, 127 Piccadilly, London W1J 7PX, and see if the SAHR has back-issues of these journals available, or request copies of these articles via the interlibrary loan program at your local library.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Harold

I am open to offers - to cover photocopying and postage - but not into mass production - only have a small team and would not wish upset copyright rules.
