Very interesting. I'd think that this is a novel topic in AZW history.

Greetings:

Mr. Wade wrote earlier Spies in the Empire: Victorian Military Intelligence (London: Anthem Press, 2007), which contains a chapter on "The Zulu Wars and Egypt" (pp. 105-124). The Zulu Wars section concentrates on the reported intelligence gathering activities of F.B. Fynney and John Dunn. There are only 13 endnotes to that chapter, none of which provide any new or noteworthy information.
We'll have to wait and see about the new book.
Good reading,
Harold

Empire And Espionage: Spies In The Zulu War.
by Stephen Wade.

This book has just arrived at my door.

If anyone wishes a review after I've read it, I'll add one here if wanted.

Not sure my opinion matters much these days though - if ever.

Anyway, the offer still stands.

With not having other books by this author, or knowing what books are in your library, it may be better for you to browse through a copy in a bookshop first, before purchasing.

That said, I'm just halfway through it at present, enjoying it well enough, a couple of interesting details have caught my attention, but 1 or 2 basic mistakes too.

There are only small summaries of some battles, the book concentrating, as the title suggests, on the by who, how and what means intelligence was gathered and interpreted.

Nice illustrations and a couple of photos.

PS. As Chard (Stanley Baker) said to Bromhead (Michael Caine) in 'Zulu' -

"Thankyou for what you said" (in your post) Wink
