In 1879 Britain, the largest imperial power in the world went to war against a small tribal nation. In the first battle of the war, against all the odds, the might of the British Army was crushed by the tenacious Zulu warriors. 133 years on, the Anglo-Zulu War continues to captivate the public interest.

To explore the history of this fascinating conflict the National Army Museum has brought together a group of Anglo-Zulu War scholars for a series of talks.

Speakers to include:

* Ian Knight - Colonel Durnford at Isandlwana: Hero or Villain?
* John Laband - The Ambivalent Zulu Use of Firearms from the Perspective of the Zulu Military Culture
* Bill Cainan/Paul Bryant-Quinn - Wales and the Zulu War

* Standard: 15.00
* Concession: 12.50

Tickets can be purchased in the following ways:

* Telephone: 020 7881 6600
* At the Museum

Just realised I still haven't booked my place - nor arranged yet for my brother to put me up in London, which will ease my participation in the "post-match activities." Who else is going?

Sadly, I will be otherwise engaged.

Is it planned to collect the lectures in bookform for later publication?

I see that the event starts at 10.30am but does anyone know the time - and speaker - of the first lecture?

I had bypassed this topic, thinking it was to do with an event that happened last year.

I'm sorry to be missing Ian Knight's talk.

Will it be getting recorded this time or a written transcript, as nothing surfaced from the other talk at NAM, that I recall ?

The running order is still a bit vague, but as I understand it, Ian is on first, talking about Durnford. Then the Welsh boys, followed by John Laband bringing some sanity to the event !!!

Thanks Bill. I'm not sure about the wisdom of putting Ian on first when some punters may still be on their way.

I would hope that the talks will be repeated over the day. Bill will also, no doubt, need a second chance to get it right!!
