Thanks to Google I found this page:

which allows you to download (subject of course to applicable copyright laws) Hamilton-Browne's book "A Lost Legionary In South Africa" free of charge in a variety of formats - text, pdf, epub, kindle, etc - perfect for those who can't find, afford or find-shelf-space-for a hard copy.
Apologies if this is old news - it was new to me.

Many thanks, it was news to me and very useful having recently lost a hard copy of the same by being stupid enough to lend it to somebody.

It was 'left on the train' which is the Zulu War equivalent of 'the dog ate my homework' in these circumstances.

Disappointed to hear that your copy of was 'lost'.

If you did want a [relatively] cheap copy there are modern reprints available from India. Try:
