The Zulus Already Advancing ?

Having recently reread TMFH, I find myself even more convinced that the Zulus were all on the move, especially with the added activity of the mounted men heading up onto the ridge and Durnford's moving on the plain.

Trying to keep 20,000 warriors concealed in a static position hoping not to be discovered would have been too risky, which even a novice Zulu Commander would have realised.

Knowing the stealth of the warriors, actually deploying into their attack formation unseen, wouldn't be unheard of, considering they got so close to the camp to begin with.

I truly believe that Raw discovered/met the Zulus at the position marked 'X' indicated in the thesis, rather than at the valley.

Thoughts ?

I think that, in view of the evidence presented, there can be little doubt that the Raw/Basuto initial contact with the Zulus took place outside the Ngwebeni valley as depicted by X in TMFH.
