I was reminded by a programme today, of the using of almost identical military bell tents used during the Zulu War 1879 for what is called glamping.
Taking a photograph of the tents set up like at Aldershot you can see exactly just what an obstacle and obstruction they would have been when the defenders fell back, especially with other camp items used by the soldiers outside the tents, guy ropes, etc., when trying to create a clear line of fire, rallying groups, etc.
You could lose sight of even your own men just a couple of rows away when pressured by the Zulus entering at several points, so being cut off very easily.
This is a great image, if you didnt know any better, youd think it was the makings of a re-enactment group large set up, before adding additional items like wagons, camp fires, etc
