For those who are interested I have now confirmed with Greenhill that my next two books are to be called:

Into the Jaws of Death

Into the Mouth of Hell

I thought it would be nice to have a little bit of Tennyson in the titles after using Macaulay and Byron in the last pair!

As ever

All the world wondered!

(At least, I did!) Do the two titles share things out & take 300 each? Or what?

Looking forward to them, now on my third read of HCMDB, Top stuff.

On a personal note would like to move the range experiment forward a bit, that we mused a couple of months ago, I have nine Martini shooters itching to test out the theories.

Regards
Neil

Hi Neil

Kind of you. You've read it more times than I have!

I'm sure we can do something with the range, but the start point will have to be a formal letter from you to me explaining what your proposal is, the distances you want to shoot to, a selection of potential dates, and who will participate. This is not so that I understand what you are after (I do already), but so that I can send it on to the relevant authorities under the cover of my own note of endorsement. In choosing dates don't come inside 6 months, as range bookings have great lead-times. No promises but I'll certainly do what I can to help. If you send your letter C/O Martin he will make sure I get it.

If you have or can get a range safety template for the .450 in round, that will be useful.

The titles sound interesting, but what is the subject matter ??
AZW again or something different ?

Best regards

Mike,
I hope you're prepared for the single 'shield' rating your books will get in the AZWRS book reviews.

I think we all agree where Ms Hogan can stick her shield.

They are a wider look at Victorian warfare, embracing a few of the more more interesting campaigns. They are written in a broady comparable style as the first two. Correction I say 'they' are - I haven't written the second one yet - so I mean the first one is written in the same style and the second one will be. They each have a little bit of AZW in, but it is only a small proportion of the whole.

I'll be able to live with it. Credibility is everything, isn't it. And now look at the mess they've gotten themselves into. Who will ever believe them again!

Peter,

Ouch!

Hogan to right of him,
Hogan to left of him,
Hogan in front of him,
Volley'd & thunder'd!

(But Hogan had blunder'd ...!!!)

It's seems we're getting decidedly anti-Hogan around here....

Mike
I look forward to those books coming out. I had a thought from a previous post that they focus on the campaigns of the 24th Regiment? I'm appreciative of the fact that you take the time to post on this forum when the pressure must surely be on you to get writing the second book in this particular series. I don't know how you do it.

Except in so far as the 24th appears in the AZW bits, the regiment does not appear elsewhere in the books. They have a much wider ranging remit. I can't think that I have posted anything else which might suggest otherwise, unless I used some Lord Raglan like wooly or ambiguous expression!

Sorry, Mike, I must be having one of those time warp moments, you know, where you think you've heard it before but you haven't...no...must be a female thing. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I look forward to them coming out (at least the first one for now) and expanding my horizons a bit. Wink

It might interest you to know that I have also compiled a list of those who charged (which includes several extra prevously unnamed bodies). I have two 'Charge' accounts by participants which are previously unpublished and a previously unpublished photo of one of the authors.
I've been waiting for an appropriate moment to 'out' them.

Hi Julian

Nice to have you back! Where have you been?

It's a kind offer but in fact I am going to begin in 1855 and barely mention the charge. Besides, pah! It is nothing to Chillianwallah!
