It is often quoted that Chelmsford took a number of men out of the camp at Isandlwana with tragic effect. Do we know the numbers concerned and unit ( s ) involved ? . The casualties and survivors are well documented for Jan 22nd 1879 but what of the forces that left camp and survived the 22nd Jan 1879 ?, we often hear of men who were at Rorke's Drift but not on Jan 22nd , one being Pte Comberton of the 24th whose story can be read in an Essex countryside magazine of the1960`s . I am wondering as well just how many claimed to have been involved at either Isandlawana OR Rorke's drift but not on THE DAY ? . Pte Comberton was one whose claim is on paper , i should imagine there will be quite a few others , thank you , Graham .
