Hello Shel...great that the book is out! Looking forward to picking it up.
I'll be making a decision shortly on where to get it! With this being Nelson's year and all these AZW books coming out, my wallet is getting lighter! Now better yet maybe you could get on Brit Airways and take a little tour around here where I could meet you in a Borders store and shake your hand on this book..thanks.... |

It's 456 pages long! £12.50 long distance airmail is not excessive - or certainly not unusual - for a parcel of that sort of size/weight. In fact I often seem to pay airmail costs of £10/£12-plus on smaller books ordered from RSA for UK delivery. Obviously, it does add considerably to the retail cost & we all have a budget - which, as you correctly point out, is having to be stretched to the limit this autumn with so many tempting titles appearing all at once! The matter of postage charges from anywhere overseas is a very vexed question. In fact, I have found that US mail charges are very reasonable for the most part, and the RSA is the most expensive. However, even from the US I have found that sometimes the mailing cost is greater than the cost of the book - unless I want to wait two months to receive it, of course! KIS |

Peter/Keith....
Just a reply to your informed comments.... Well looks like Sheldon packed alot of information in those 400+ pages. I didn't think the book was that large! Now I hope Sheldon is not consigned to setting up a card table say somewhere in Torquay hawking his ZULU book under a canopy outside of a pub noting "I was an extra who had coffee with Stanley Baker!" because some fellow in the US is complaining about shipping costs!!......Don't worry Shel I'm a orderin'!! Now because I'm an inveterate reader who buys many books throughout the year I've found I've got to be judicious and selective in my purchases primarily because of the high cost of books and also because of the inevitable shipping charges that come with it. I don't know about all of you but sometimes I believe the publishing industry on its business side is not doing its best in controlling their costs. I think they can do better. And, from my point of view, why should a book cost more to mail than the actual cost of the book itself? I think it's kind of ludicrous! |

For people who live in the U.S., you can do what I did and order it through amazon.com -- you get amazon's discount plus free shipping. Of course, the disadvantage is that everyone else will have finished reading their copies by the time we get ours.

Good for you, Richus, though you may not get it until December...
I've heard from one American reader who received his from Tomahawk on 3 October - it was sent out on 29 September - so ordering through the publisher at least guarantees prompt delivery for the cost of shipping. Best, Sheldon |

Dear All,
in addition to Sheldon's new book.I also recommend purchasing the'Zulu' DVD which has an excellent commentary narrated by Sheldon, available as an 'extra' in the menu features. The film flies by extremely quickly whilst listening to the commentary. One interesting feature about the Zulu package is that it features a 'left hand sleeve' which is unusual.I wonder why the distributors choose this orientation, for what is still a fairly superstitious British Society.Perhaps Sheldon can provide some input on this particular feature of the special edition package of the film.Perhaps the next stage is to have a documentary made about the film, with Sheldon, once again providing his specialised knowledge for the viewer on this epic. Tony. |

Hi Tony,
I wasn't involved in the design of the DVD packaging (otherwise I would have objected to the white feather!) so I can't be sure why certain decisions were made. Glad you enjoyed the commentary, though; if I were to re-record it in 2005 rather than 2002 I would be able to do a better one, as I know so much more about the production now. As for a book tie-in documentary - let's wait and see! Sheldon |

Hello Sheldon..well dang it me boy.....I finally got your book from Amazon!
Boy, from a quick perusal, this is a book with alot of meat and potatoes in it! How in the name of Isandhwana did you manage to collect all that information!? Shortly, I will be digesting all that stuff as soon as I can. Thanks for your work. |

Hi Rich,
Glad it's reached you at last! How did I do it? Well, it took about 4 years of hard slog... hope you find the effort worthwhile. Best, Sheldon |
