Dear Kris,
Probably nothing - however it may influence considerably if and when his wife was placed on the married establishment when a vacancy occurred. Only about 6 in 100 soldiers had their wives (+ children) on the married establishment. This status allowed them to live in the barracks, be fed and children educated by the army authorities - and of course they had access to the army medical services. If your wife was not on the establishment then she lived outside and the soldier had to find all the board and lodging costs. And if the regiment went aboard, she could not accompany him. |
