Has been released already by UKZN Press Have a look on their website Not sure about other places ? The official launch will take place at Killie Campbell in September Copies ( as well as other publications by Prof Guy) will be available at the Hilton Arts Festival KZN -- for those local. I am finding the book VERY interesting ( as I am particularly interested in the history of land in Natal -- and Shepstone seems to have been central in this ! ) |

Stephen Coan helpfully tipped me off about this forthcoming work back in March/April. I've been looking forward to it avidly. Guy was originally of the "Shula Marks school" and I think of him as more Marks than Marx and an accomplished scholar of renown.
Thanks Chris. Peter |

Professor Carolyn Hamilton UCT - (SHAKA , MFECANE) is also a "Marksian" scholar , but I am sure that she and John Wright do NOT see eye to eye with Jeff Guy ! I will ask Dan Wylie when I see him ( heritage month in SA / KZN atm.) Chris |

That's perfectly all right. I have works by Wylie and Hamilton as well as plenty by John Wright and Jeff Guy. I don't expect them all to agree with each other. All four of these (as well as many of their contemporaries since the 1970s, when that "new wave" of historians in Natal emerged) have, in their works, broken new ground and provided us with some wonderful material.
