Hey everybody, just wondered if anybody knows anything more than I do about the memorial to the 80th in Lichfield Cathedral, am quite intrigued to find out who the sculptor of the imitation shields was, and whether the assegais came from the Ulundi battlefield or from some other part of Zululand. I presume they were originally taken as tokens of the war before being commited to this worthy tribute?

If my memory serves me correctly, the spears forming the gates where the imitation shields are positioned are not real spears, just like the shields. I believe they were made specifically for the memorial and I also believe that there was some controversy at the time about displaying "weapons of war" in a cathedral. Fantastic memorial though, one of the best I have ever seen.
