Date | Original Topic | 4th March 2002 | Private John Fagan By Tom Fagan Does anyone have any information (date of birth, place of birth, etc) for Private John Fagan of B Company? He's listed as KIA at Rorke's Drift and is mentioned by name in Pvt. Hitch's account of the action. I'd greatly appreciate any information. | Date | Replies | 5th March 2002 | Brian Best Dear Tom
I can do no better than quote from Norman Holmes's "The Noblee 24th".
Private John Fagan 25B/969 Attested 13/12/1876 and posted to 2/24th Warwickshire Rgt at Brecon.
Confined by civil power; tried 7/11/1878. Sentanced to 5 days imprisonment.
Served in Kaffir War (now referred to as Frontier War) 1878. Killed in action at Rorke's Drift 22-23/1/1879. Buried in the cemetary at Rorke's Drift & his name is inscribed on the monument.
