Date | Original Topic | 27th August 2002 | Main wagon park By Alex Rossiter Hi All
I was just wondering does anyone know what happened in the main wagon park at the closing stages of the battle of isandlwana.
Were any stands made in it or did the fugitives just run past it ...im just curious because im making a isandlwana diorama but am not sure to leave the wagon park as empty (just containing wagons and ox) or if there was any action in it.
Thankyou for any help
Regards
Alex | Date | Replies | 28th August 2002 | Glenn Wade Hi Alex! I believe there were a few small groupings or last stands made by any type of soldiers in the wagon park so you could just have half a dozen men back to back near a wagon and/or peole hiding under or on top of a wagon!
Hope this helps Alex!

| 18th September 2002 | Julian Whybra Smith-Dorrien states that of the 90 waggons in the waggon park, he had 45 inspanned in the camp and ready to move out on return convoy to Rorke's Drift. This move was postponed when the attack occurred so there would have been considerable activity in the waggon park. Vause brought in Durnford's 6 waggons from Rorke's Drift to add to the confusion at around 10.30. There is one survivor's statement from a waggon driver who remained in the waggon park (Umgohlulu) which is recorded in the Blue Book C2374 pp.24-25. This should give you a fairly vivid picture. |
